Broward and Miami-Dade County Public Schools (MDCPS) are observing Take our Daughters and Sons to Work Day on Friday, February 2nd 2018.

FIU is hosting multiple interactive events for children age 8-18 on campus and CASE departments will be headlining a few of these events. Some of the events include:

“Bringing the farthest galaxies to South Florida”
-Hosted by the Department of Physics, children will be able to visit the Stocker AstroScience Center, a fully equipped, modern observatory and research center.

“X-treme Science/Physics Expo”
-Hosted by the Department of Physics, X-treme Science Physics Expo is for those with enquiring minds, passion for understanding how things work, enjoy playing with ideas and experimenting. Children will be able to walk across a non-newtonian pool, savior the taste of nitrogen ice cream, unravel scientific puzzles and learn to understand natural phenomenons.

“Forensic Scientists against crime at FIU”
-Hosted by the International Forensic Research Institute, children will be given the chance to solve a crime. Activities will include an overview of crime scene investigation, identifying different types of physical evidence, fingerprint analysis and DNA.

“Medina Aquarius Program”
-The Medina Aquarius Program is dedicated to the study and preservation of marine ecosystems worldwide. Children will be able to see an actual model of the underwater reef base and try on diving equipment.

“Honeybees: Heroes of our Environment”
– Hosted by the Agroecology Program, children will immerse themselves in an overview of honeybees, the types of bees found in South Florida and their contributions to our food source. Children will also be part of a presentation with an observation hive of live honeybees.
