Dr. James Webb, Physics professor and Director of the Stocker AstroScience Center, was recently honored as  the Community Award Recipient at the 2018 HR Service & Recognition Awards.

Dr. Webb was nominated for his community outreach including the involvement of many who attended the 2017 Solar Eclipse Watch Party.  Hundreds of FIU faculty and staff, students, members of the community and media flocked to FIU’s Stocker AstroScience Center’s solar eclipse watch party.

Not only does Dr. Webb host community Star Parties every semester, he also served as a consultant for Booker T. Washington Middle School to help them refurbish the school’s planetarium as part of FIU’s Education Effect. Dr. Webb even offered special tours as part of the 2018 Take Our Daughters and Sons to Work Day.

With over 200 student tours since the center opened in 2013, Dr. Webb always welcomes the FIU community to see the telescopes and learn about astronomy at the Stocker AstroScience Center.
