Richard Blanco Fellowship in Creative Writing

President Obama and Richard Blanco

Upon the celebration of the 25th anniversary of FIU CASE’s Creative Writing Program, the Richard Blanco Fellowship in Creative Writing was established.

The program aims to build an endowment to support master’s-level graduate students from diverse backgrounds and disciplines, providing students significant opportunities for future career development in their respective professional fields.

Blanco is the fifth Presidential Inaugural Poet in U.S. history. He is the youngest, first Latino, immigrant and gay person to serve in such a role. The alumnus-turned-professor recited an original poem, “One Today” for President Obama’s second inauguration on Jan. 2013.
