Set to graduate next month with a major in sports management, Patino appears to have a future in pro soccer. His draft rights in Major League Soccer are owned by Orlando City.
Even though the men’s soccer team is losing three of their seniors this year, Coach Kevin Nylen is not worried about his team’s performance next season.
Joris Ahlinvi, a junior from France, should be FIU’s next soccer star after finishing the 2018 season with seven goals and three assists. He ranked second in Conference USA in shots, sixth in points and seventh in goals.
“We have a good group of guys,” Nylen said. “We will miss the seniors. We’ll see in the spring if we replace Patino’s scoring with one guy or by committee.”
We’ll be cheering on Santiago as he makes his way into the Major Leagues, and we wish all the FIU men’s players the best as they prepare for next season.
