The Panthers have a lot to celebrate so far this season. Holding onto an 18-11 and 9-7 in Conference USA record, the 18 wins match the fourth-best season in program history.
The 83-76 home triumph over Louisiana Tech was especially a momentous one for the School of Environment, Arts and Society senior, Brian Beard, who became the seventh FIU player to reach 1,000 career points. He came into the game with 999 points, and didn’t take a shot until his milestone points during the first half.
“Coming into the game I knew I needed one point,” Beard said. “I wasn’t pressed to get it. I knew I was going to score one point but it felt good to get it. I’m proud of myself.”
