Save the date: 9th Annual Forensic Science Symposium

On June 2-4, 2020, the 9th Annual Forensic Science Symposium will bring more than 200 professional and aspiring forensic scientists to Florida International University.

Hosted by the Global Forensic and Justice Center, an FIU preeminent program, organizers will cover broader criminal justice topics while also focusing on traditional topics, like DNA, chemistry, toxicology, and latent prints. In May, attendees heard panel discussions about the global opioid crisis and genetic genealogy privacy concerns. For the first time, digital forensics was presented in a standing-room only breakout session. At least 20 presenters were FIU students or faculty, highlighting the strength of the forensic science research program at the university.

“In 2020, we want to engage law enforcement, nurses, and lawyers because the impact of forensic science goes beyond the laboratory,” explains Kevin Lothridge, GFJC’s executive director. “This symposium provides a unique opportunity to combine all of these topics for a more thoughtful look at innovations as well as the challenges facing the industry today.”

The three-day event will be held at the FIU College of Business Complex on the Modesto A. Maidique Campus in Miami.Sponsorship opportunities and a call for abstracts will be released later this fall.
