After- School All-Stars receives check

After-School All-Stars (ASAS) South Florida held its 6th annual “Superfest” on Saturday, Dec. 7, for over 600 middle school students in Title 1 Middle schools and their families.

Attendees participated in an array of organized games, including flag football, basketball, track and soccer along with activities such as tug-of-war, sack races and carnival games.

“I truly love what “Superfest” stands for as each year we see hundreds of kids and families from different communities throughout Miami-Dade County come together in the spirit of competition and leave with new bonds of friendship and understanding,” Sean Prospect, executive director of ASAS South Florida said.

ASAS presented trophies to all winning students in each sport and the teachers who represented their schools in the teacher’s challenge. `

This year’s grand sponsor, Ronald McDonald House Charities (RMHC), presented After-School All-Stars with a check of $10,000 and a local McDonald’s provided lunch to all the students.

“We chose After-School All-Stars because of their continued education and unconditional support towards improving the well-being of children in South Florida,” Soraya Rivera-Moya, executive director of the Ronald McDonald House Charities of South Florida said.

Other sponsors included FOX Sports Florida, Nike, Miami HEAT, Florida International University, T-Mobile/Metro PCS, Publix, United Way, 21st Century Community Learning Centers, The Children’s Trust, Miami-Dade County Public Schools and Broward Public Schools.
