Last month, School Board Vice Chair Steve Gallon III recognized Peter J. Cistone for his contribution to the educational field.

“Many know my story. Sitting outside of an office door at FIU to appeal denial into an English course in pursuit of a master’s degree in English, God sends Dr. Cistone who recruited me into educational leadership on a full scholarship. From there, I earned a master’s and doctoral degree and was set on a pathway toward the blessed career of servant leadership that I’ve experienced, ” Gallon said.

Cistone’s academic interests center on educational governance, policy and politics; educational policy analysis; schools as organizations; and higher education administration.

He’s been a member of the FIU faculty since 1982 and served as Dean of the College of Education for five years. He is now a professor in the Department of Educational Policy Studies.
