Upward Bound Math-Science seeking summer counselors

Summer counselor with students

Upward Bound Math-Science (UBMS) is seeking counselors for the 2020 Summer Program from June through August. UBMS caters to Pell Grant-eligible high school youth whose aspirations and potential are exceptional in the STEM fields. The Summer Program is an opportunity for UBMS students to gain an immersive experience in college life complete with dorm living, rigorous classes and planned activities.

There are two distinct opportunities: Residential counselors will manage students overnight, and build and execute a weekly itinerary of activities and events. Residential counselors are required to stay on campus Sunday afternoon through Friday morning generally. Academic counselors will manage students during the day, and provide academic support in STEM subjects such as chemistry, calculus, anatomy, geometry and others. Academic counselors are required to work from morning until late afternoon Monday through Friday. All counselors must be able to work and collaborate with a team of likeminded and motivated individuals.

Both positions are co-organized through Americorps. Compensation is provided in a bi-weekly stipend as well as an educational award at the end of the counselor’s term of service. Educational awards may go towards any institution of higher learning. Counselors may also opt out of the educational award for a cash stipend instead.
