Professor Almirall receives the Paul L. Kirk Award

Director of the Center for Advanced Research in Forensic Science, Jose Almirall was honored by the Criminalistics Section of the American Academy of Forensic Sciences during the 2020 annual meeting in Anaheim, Calif. with the most prestigious award bestowed by the AAFS Criminalistics Section.

According to AAFS, The Paul L. Kirk Award is bestowed upon a person, living or dead, who has accomplished one or both of the following:

  • Developed a method that greatly improves the capacity or accuracy of criminalistics or forensic science.
  • Performed a special service that results in marked improvement in the quality, recognition, or acceptance of criminalistics or forensic science.

Almirall was recognized for his more than 30 years of contributions to the forensic sciences – most notably his more than 145 publications, mentoring of 50+ graduate students, postdoctoral fellows and visiting scientists, and his championing of standardization of forensic chemistry methods.
