NEEMO aquanaut joins NASA’s astronaut corps

Former NEEMO 23 aquanaut Jessica Watkins recently spoke to Elite Daily on becoming the sixth black woman to serve as a NASA astronaut.

Before joining the elite group of astronauts, Watkins and an all-female astronaut and science crew conducted training to prepare for future space missions and assist with ocean conservation at the world’s only undersea laboratory – Aquarius.

In 2019, this was the 23rd NASA Extreme Environment Mission Operations in the history of Aquarius but the first since Hurricane Irma idled the FIU facility in 2017.
