The FIU University Graduate School (UGS) has announced the 2020 Provost Awards. Two students and two professors from the College of Arts, Sciences & Education were recipients of the prestigious awards. Below are the award recipients:
Carissa Gervasi Bloom, a Ph.D. student in the Department of Earth and Environment and the Institute of Environment, has received the award for Graduate Student Engagement. The award recognizes nominees who, in conjunction with graduate faculty, have demonstrated significant local, regional or global community engagement through a community partnership that has led to demonstrable community impacts. Gervasi’s faculty mentor is Jennifer Rehage.
Laura Garcia Barcia, a Ph.D. student in the Department of Biological Sciences and the Institute of Environment, has received the award for Outstanding Graduate Teaching Assistant. The award recognizes exceptional contributions made by a graduate teaching assistant to the educational excellence of FIU. Garcia’s faculty mentor is Heather Bracken-Grissom.
Andy Pham, associate professor in the Department of Counseling, Recreation and School Psychology, and Valentina Bruk-Lee, associate professor in the Department of Psychology, have received the award for Mentorship of Graduate Students. The award recognizes excellence in the teaching and mentoring of graduate students outside the formal classroom experience.
