Researchers use DNA clues to find where sharks are caught

Marine scientist Demian Chapman is leading a group DNA detectives to uncover the secrets of the illegal shark fin trade.

Chapman spoke to NBC 6’s Angie Lassman about the origins of shark fins he and his team sourced from Hong Kong and why identifying where sharks were caught is so important.

FIU has been ranked No. 9 in the world for positive impact on life below water by The Times Higher Education Impact Rankings. The university ranked third in the United States and is the only institution in Florida to make the list.
