FIU’s College of Arts, Sciences & Education is seeking a research development officer – Grant Administrator III. This position will identify funding opportunities, coordinate cross-institutional teams of researchers and develop interdisciplinary research proposals primarily for the preeminent Institute of Environment. The individual will work with the director and associate directors of the institute, as well as with principal investigators of funded projects to formulate and facilitate the research direction of the institute. They will guide the institute’s faculty with preparing project proposals and developing reports for funded projects, as well as assist with proposal and resource development for the CASE Research Development Office.

Job duties include:

  • Facilitates the overall research activity of the institute;
  • Manages, coordinates and plans appropriate research programs and technical project activities;
  • Assists with strategic planning for the institute toward the expansion of research, development and education capabilities;
  • Assists in formulating and administering the appropriate research programs and technical projects;
  • Responsible for proposal development and project reporting for funded research activities;
  • Identifies and tracks relevant funding opportunities on behalf of the institute;
  • Facilitates team formation and proposal writing meetings for identified research opportunities and drafts proposals in response to relevant funding opportunities;
  • Prepares and assembles required grant documents for the institute for submission through the FIU Office of Research and Economic Development to Federal agencies, industry, contractors and foreign entities;
  • Directs implementation and interpretation of operating policy procedures for the institute subject to appropriate oversight from the FIU Office of Research and Economic Development;
  • Assists with coordinating efforts between the Office of Technology Management and Commercialization and the institute, including monitoring grant provisions to ensure compliance with state, university and sponsor’s guidelines;
  • Performs other related duties as assigned or as directed for the CASE Research Development Office.

Minimum qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • Four years of relevant experience with one year of research grant management
  • Experience working with STEM-related grants or degree in a STEM field

Desired qualifications:

  • Master’s degree and at least three years of experience with scientific proposal writing and preparation; expertise in environmental sciences preferred
  • Experience coordinating teams to prepare proposals for large-scale funded research projects
  • Experience identifying research opportunities at major funding agencies
