When duty calls: Biology student served as Army Reserve medic in New Jersey

Dylan Hinton

A College of Arts, Sciences & Education biology student enlisted in the U.S. Army Reserve expected to one day receive orders to pack up and ship out on short notice.

Dylan Hinton, 19, never expected to be called up so soon. He never envisioned the enemy he would battle against would be a pandemic. He never counted on having to travel to a coronavirus hotspot.

All that changed the instant he received a call that changed his life.

Twenty-four hours later, Hinton was in New Jersey serving as a medic for 12 hours a day at University Hospital in Newark.
