CASE Camps seeking instructors

The FIU CASE Education Outreach is hosting two in-person STEM-focused summer camps starting in June. Both camps are seeking to fill the full-time temporary positions of lead instructor and support instructor who are passionate about STEM education and have an interest in joining the Education Outreach summer team. CASE camps will be:

  • Camp Discover on Modesto Maidique Campus from June 14th – July 9th
  • Camp Explore on Biscayne Bay Campus from July 12th – August 6th

Camp Discover focuses broadly on STEM fields and Camp Explore focuses on marine and environmental science. Each camp will run for a 4-week period over summer 2021 with no overlap. Candidates who are willing to work both camps will be prioritized.

Please note, Camp Explore will include water activities such as kayaking and snorkeling.

Lead instructor duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Demonstrating a desire and ability to learn and be taught about marine sciences, chemistry, physics and astrology.
  • Being physically able and willing to maintain constant supervision of campers and to fulfill all responsibilities.
  • Becoming familiar with and implement camp policies, procedures and philosophy.
  • Assuming full responsibility for and supervision of assigned campers each week, including reading through pertinent medical information.
  • Preparing and conducting daily science activities, including by not limited to dissections, experiments, art projects and games.
  • Providing appropriate supervision and instruction to each camper in all settings and activities.
  • Participating in all activities with campers.
  • Maintaining the cleanliness and safety of all areas used by the camp.
  • Completing daily reports.
  • Performing all other assigned duties, including greeting and communicating with parents/guardians at drop-off and pick-up.

Support instructor duties and responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Demonstrating a desire and ability to learn and be taught about marine and environmental sciences
  • Being physically able and willing to maintain constant supervision of campers and to fulfill all responsibilities.
  • Participating in pre-camp staff training.
  • Becoming familiar with and implementing camp policies, procedures and philosophy.
  • Being on time for all shifts and meetings.
  • Assisting the lead instructor in assuming responsibility for and supervising of assigned campers each week, including reading through pertinent medical information.
  • Assisting the lead instructor in preparing and conducting daily science activities, including by not limited to dissections, experiments, art projects and games.
  • Assisting the lead instructor in providing appropriate supervision and instruction to each camper in all settings and activities.
  • Participating in all activities with campers.
  • Maintaining the cleanliness and safety of all areas utilized by the camp.
  • Completing daily reports.
  • Performing all other assigned duties, including greeting and communicating with parents/guardians at drop-off and pick-up.
