Sports, Rhetoric and Society (ENC 4930-RVC) will offer students a unique opportunity to explore issues related to sports while developing skills in writing and rhetoric. Historically, sports have been tied to issues of race, gender, class, diversity, community and language.

NFL players in recent years have supported Black Lives Matter. Billie Jean King, Serena Williams and Sue Bird have advocated for women. Sporting events that benefit charity and the community are an integral part of South Florida’s culture. Students will read about the history of race or gender in sports plus current articles. Students will participate in a sports-related community engagement project.
