The U.S. Securities & Exchanges Commission (SEC) seeks high-caliber students who share the values of integrity, fairness, accountability, resourcefulness, teamwork and commitment to excellence. SEC is headquartered in Washington, D.C. and has 10 regional offices across the country in Atlanta, Boston, Chicago, Denver, Fort Worth, Miami, New York, Philadelphia, Salt Lake and San Francisco.

Students will be assigned to work with SEC staff members on assignments that cover a broad range of work. Assignments range from supporting securities regulations to assisting in professional administrative duties.

SEC is looking for the following majors at the undergraduate and graduate levels:

  • Accounting/Economics/Finance 
  • Business Administration (Contracting/Procurement, Management, Project Management) 
  • Human Resources/Human Resources Development (Washington, DC ONLY) 
  • Information Technology/Computer Science/Information Systems 
  • Graphic Design 
  • Data Sciences 
  • Mathematics/Statistics 
  • Cybersecurity 
  • Public Administration/Government 
  • Criminal Justice 
  • Library Sciences (Washington, D.C. ONLY)
  • Communications/Marketing 
  • Journalism/English/Literature 
  • Geographic Information Systems (GIS) 


  • Undergraduate and graduate students must be enrolled and/or accepted at an accredited university or college as of Fall 2021.
  • Must be taking at least half-time academic course load.  
  • Students graduating in April, May, June from any accredited university or college are ineligible. 
  • Volunteer internship opportunities in the fall are full-time or part-time, with a minimum of 15 hours per week.
  • Academic and/or work-study credit is available to all summer volunteers.

Conditions of Employment 

  • Must be a U.S. Citizen and 18 years or older at the time of appointment.
  • Relatives of SEC are not eligible to participate.
  • CLEARANCE: Favorable results on a background investigation may be a condition of invitation or selection to another opportunity.
