Bonefish & Tarpon Trust is dedicated to the conservation of bonefish, tarpon and permit — the species, their habitats and the fisheries they comprise. They are seeking to add a field technician to their team.
The responsibilities of the position include:
- Tagging and tracking movements and migrations of bonefish to identify pre-spawning locations.
- Maintaining and downloading acoustic telemetry receivers in the Florida Keys and Biscayne Bay.
- Conducting drone flights and active acoustic telemetry surveys in search of bonefish pre-spawning aggregation.
- Executing seine net and light trap surveys for juvenile and larval bonefish.
- Entering data and maintaining databases for associated projects.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree from an accredited university is a minimum requirement; advanced degree preferred.
- Experience captaining center console vessels and trailering small boats in coastal and ocean waters.
- Passion for fishing and general knowledge of the recreational fishing industry.
- Experience snorkeling, free diving and SCUBA diving in sometimes adverse conditions.
- Willingness to work occasionally on weekends and evenings.
- Comfort working in adverse marine environments.
- Basic understanding of excel and general data entry procedures.
- Experience tagging and tracking fish preferred.
