STEM Transformation Institute seeks Master Teacher

The STEM Transformation Institute is searching for a Master Teacher to join the FIUteach project team. FIUteach is an innovative program to recruit, prepare and induct secondary science and mathematics teachers into teaching careers, based on the established UTeach model that brings teacher experiences to the forefront.

Master Teachers are vital to the project’s success, serving as primary mentors for undergraduate students in the FIUteach program, sharing the rewards of teaching and seeing students develop their skills. Their role also includes supervising students in K-12 school settings, modeling effective classroom instruction, connecting with schools and districts, and providing feedback to the team and institution. Master Teachers will be hired as clinical faculty and will report to program co-directors and work closely with the project team.

The position requires local travel to work with teachers and students in the schools, attendance at meetings with high school teachers, supervisors, etc. Position also requires one or more out-of-state trips/year to attend UTeach conferences and other related meetings.

Required Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree or higher in science, mathematics or a related field.
  • Minimum of five years as a secondary classroom teacher, with a preference for public school experience.
  • Commitment to recruiting and preparing effective teachers through the FIUteach teacher professional preparation program.
  • Experience/knowledge of working with diverse populations and/or high needs schools preferred.
  • Expertise in appropriate use of evidence-based instructional strategies and technology.
